& data protection.

1. Data we collect

• Child profile: display name, avatar, colour, age group, mascot outfit and favourite games. Children do not need an email address or their own account.
• Learning data: results from each play session, stars earned, reward goals, collectibles and settings in the parent area.
• Parent account (optional): email and password. Passwords are stored only as hashes; we cannot read them.
• Shared question packs: packs you add with a share code, including images from that pack.
• Crash reports: the app does not send crash reports or device data to third-party services.

When you are not signed in, all of the above stays on the device. When a parent signs in, the child's profile and learning data are synced to StarJar's servers so they can be used across devices.

2. Device permissions

• Microphone and speech recognition: used only when a child practises speaking English. Speech is processed by the operating system's recognition service (Apple on iOS, Google on Android). StarJar does not record audio and does not send audio to our servers.
• Camera: used only to scan QR codes for shared question packs. The app does not take or save photos.

You can turn these permissions off in your device settings.

3. How we use data

• Show the child's profile, stars and learning progress
• Sync data across devices when a parent is signed in
• Unlock games purchased on your account
• Reply when you contact support
• Fix bugs and improve app stability

4. In-app purchases

Some games require a purchase (Neon Defender is one-time; “All games — monthly” is 49,000 VND/month). Purchases need a signed-in parent account and work in two ways:

• In the app on iPhone/iPad: the monthly plan is an auto-renewing subscription through Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies.
• On other platforms (for example Android): a 30-day pass via PayOS (VietQR); it does not renew and is non-refundable; buying again while active extends access by 30 days.

StarJar never receives your card or bank account details. We only store the transaction ID, order ID, the product purchased and (for the monthly plan) the expiry time so we can unlock games on every device signed in to the same account.

5. Advertising & tracking

StarJar Quiz contains no advertising, does not use advertising or behavioural analytics SDKs, does not use device advertising identifiers (IDFA/AAID) and does not track users across apps or websites. We do not sell personal data.

6. Service providers

We only share data with providers needed to run the app, and only for that purpose:

• Apple: App Store, in-app purchases, speech recognition on iOS
• PayOS: bank-transfer payments (VietQR) outside iPhone/iPad
• Google: speech recognition on Android (we do not use Crashlytics)
• Amazon Web Services: encrypted database backups
• Vercel: hosting this website

7. Storage & security

Synced data is stored on StarJar's servers and transmitted over HTTPS. The database is backed up daily; backups are encrypted and deleted automatically after 7 days. We take reasonable measures to protect data, but no system on the internet is perfectly secure.

8. Deleting data & your rights

• Edit or delete a child's profile at any time in the parent area.
• Delete your StarJar account from within the app (parent area → Settings → account). This removes all of your StarJar data from our servers: child profiles, learning progress, question packs and purchase data.
• We do not keep transaction history after deletion. Only an anonymous hash of the transaction ID remains, not linked to you, so that transaction cannot be reused by another account. Apple still keeps your purchase history under Apple's policies.
• Deleted data may remain in backups for up to 7 days, then is removed automatically.
• An email account shared with other NSN apps is not deleted at the same time. If you want that email removed too, please contact us.

9. Children

StarJar Quiz is designed for children and managed by a parent or guardian. The parent area (account, settings, purchases) is gated by an adult question. We do not collect a child's contact details and do not use a child's data for advertising or tracking. If you are concerned about a child's data, contact us and we will help you delete it.
